A Little Ray of Joy: Inside Ghislaine Viñas’ Tiny Home
Interior designer Ghislaine Viñas has never been afraid of colour, contrast or a bit of mischief. Her award-winning work is known for its playfulness, off-beat beauty and the ability to make people smile the moment they step inside. Her latest project, a 600-square-foot tiny home in Upstate New York, channels all of that joy into a compact footprint. And at the heart of the bathroom sits our Rho basin, bringing sculptural softness and a grounded sense of materiality to this small but characterful space.
We asked Ghislaine how her vision came to life and how a single, thoughtfully chosen basin can help shape the mood of an entire home.
Small Footprint, Big Personality
Four years ago, Ghislaine and her family moved from New York City to Tivoli, a quiet village surrounded by nature, colour and open sky. When a tiny home nearby came up for sale, a simple kit house in need of new energy. She saw potential for something special: a cosy, joyful place for visiting family and friends, brimming with personality.
“Because so much of my portfolio is large, bespoke residential projects, it was an interesting process translating my design philosophy into just 600 sq ft” she says. “The home feels like a perfect example of how small spaces can still have a big personality.”
The layout, essentially a rectangular box, became a creative playground. Every piece of furniture, every finish, and every artwork had to work hard. Nothing was accidental.
Designing With Intention: Function first, without sacrificing charm
Tiny homes come with a unique design tension: everything must be practical, but nothing should feel bland. Ghislaine embraced this challenge head-on.
“There’s not much room for anything that doesn’t serve a purpose” she tells us. “But that never means a space has to be boring.”
Built-ins were reimagined, storage hidden cleverly, and the bathroom itself was expanded into the hallway to allow space for a vanity and concealed closet. Small interventions, big impact. The result? A home that flows beautifully, effortlessly, and radiates joy in every corner.
A Fresh, Bright, Joyful Palette
Inside, the palette feels crisp and uplifting. White walls form a clean foundation, allowing colour, art and carefully chosen textures to take centre stage.
“My vision was for the tiny home to feel white, bright and welcoming” Ghislaine explains. Inspired by the shifting seasons of Upstate New York, she layered muted-yet-vibrant hues throughout the space, tones pulled straight from nature but infused with her trademark playfulness. The effect is unmistakably Ghislaine: bold yet considered, joyful yet serene.
The Bathroom: A Small Space With a Big Smile
Open the bathroom door and you’re greeted by colourful yellow tiles, a sleek built-in vanity, playful detail, and our Rho basin sitting proudly at the centre.
“The bathroom is such a fun, unexpected moment in this home” she says. “It’s small but does not feel like an afterthought. I wanted it to feel like a light, joyful surprise.”
The Rho Basin: Soft geometry for purposeful spaces
Chosen for its sculptural curves and generous inner depth, the Rho was the perfect fit for this compact layout.
“The Rho basin feels almost like a sculpture that fits perfectly into the bathroom of my tiny home” Ghislaine tells us. “Every form, scale and proportion needs to be considered, and the basin’s shape really helped maintain harmony and flow. It’s functional but also adds that spark of joy I’m always looking for.”
Designed for surface mounting and paired beautifully with a wall-mounted tap, Rho’s gentle curves soften the room while grounding it with a refined material presence.
Why Concrete?
Ghislaine was immediately drawn to the tactile quality of Kast concrete.
“I love how the Kast concrete basin introduces an interesting, grounded texture that feels warm and inviting” she explains. “It adds depth and contrast against the bathroom finishes, creating a layered, thoughtful design.”
Unlike glossy ceramics, concrete brings warmth, natural variation and a subtle matt finish, a small detail that transforms the entire experience of the room.
A Designer’s Advice
When we asked what she’d say to designers considering a Kast basin, Ghislaine didn’t hesitate:
“See the Kast concrete basin as a sculptural element, a chance to play with materiality. Let it be a standout feature rather than an afterthought. With so many colours available, you can truly make it a focal point that elevates the entire project.”
Small Spaces, Big Stories
The Baxter Road Tiny Home proves that scale doesn’t determine impact. With thoughtfulness, playfulness and a few beautiful details (like a sculptural basin) it becomes a place that delights, surprises and welcomes.
A reminder that even the smallest home can be full of heart.
